Navigating a clear course toward your financial security.

Successful Aging

As time marches on, it is useful to listen to the advice of some older adults on how to add life to your years, not just years to your life. Here are fifteen tips from the White House Conference on Aging that will provide some pause. Many have financial implications.

  1. Simplify your life, identify priorities, and set limits.
  2. Pay attention to yourself: your body, your mind, and your spirit.
  3. Continue to teach; continue to learn.
  4. Plan some serious leisure activities and do them.
  5. Let yourself laugh and let yourself cry.
  6. Be flexible; learn to navigate change.
  7. Be charitable; make it a practice to give: wisdom, experience, money, time, and yourself.
  8. Be financially astute; invest early and wisely for your retirement.
  9. Get a life; you’ll live better in retirement if you do.
  10. Practice good nutrition and exercise.
  11. Think about your past and future.
  12. Be involved; discover what has meaning for you.
  13. Be positive; have hope and believe there is a tomorrow.
  14. Link with others – relationships are important!
  15. Become mortal and deal with your mortality
